The Evolution Of A Dog Name

by emily

When I was thirteen or so (lots of stories about me being thirteen on this blog lately, wonder what that’s about?!) I saw the brilliant film You’ve Got Mail on an airplane coming back from Paris because I am the 1%, apparently.  (JK, I’m buried in student loan debt.)  Anyway, since then, I’ve tried to copy Meg Ryan’s character in that film, Kathleen Kelly, in a variety of ways.  Sometimes I get short haircuts, I am bad at business, I take emails very seriously, I send cosmic questions out into the void, etc.  One of the most significant ways in which I copied Kathleen Kelly starting at age thirteen is that daisies became my favorite flower.

Start at 1:40 for the good stuff:

To wit: My engagement ring

My wedding bouquet

This embroidery I made in like 2008

And now, this sweet little beagle mix we adopted.

So since this whole dog naming exercise is the best example of post-modernism that a person whose knowledge of post-modernism comes exclusively from a river boat architecture tour of Chicago can fathom, her middle name is also a reference.  To Friday Night Lights.  Remember when Coach and Mrs. Taylor have that see-through baby and she’s so weird looking but also somehow cute and they call her Gracie Belle?

And you know that song Daisy Bell?

So, to make it official…

Introducing Daisy Bell Lazzaro, the newest member of our family.

She’s peed in the house twice so far and outside never.  Off to a great start!
